Felimazole for Hyperthyroidism in Cats |
Hyperthyoidism (also known as overactive thyroid) is a condition that occurs when the thyroid gland begins to produce an excess amount of the thyroid hormone. Cats with hyperthyroidism tend to burn energy too rapidly and this can result in weight loss, despite the increase in appetite. This condition is very common in older cats. |

| Fortunately, the majority of cats that develop hyperthyroidism can be treated successfully and make a complete recovery. The most common signs of hyperthyroidism are:

Doseage and Administration: The recommended starting dose for the long term treatment of hyperthyroidism is 5mg per day. The dose can then be split and a 2.5mg tablet can be given twice daily but your Vet will advise on what dosage is most appropriate for your cat. Always make sure that your cat has access to plenty of drinking water. |
Active Constituents: The active ingredient in Felimazole is thiamazole. |
Safety: Do not use in pregnant or lactating cats. Do not use in cats with a hypersensitivity to thiamazole. Do not break, split or crush tablets. Do not handle without gloves if pregnant. Pregnant women should also not handle cat litter unless wearing gloves. |
